A Celebration of Artisans in Huron County and Surrounding Areas
We Have Some of the Most Talented Artisans in Our Region
It’s time to celebrate! Another year of promoting local artisans who produce home goods and great food in Huron County and surrounding areas.
Penny’s of Blyth hosted an unforgettable “Meet the Makers” event on Saturday, October 14, 2023. This gathering showcased the unique artisan products made in Huron County and surrounding areas.
In our fast-paced, mass-produced world, it’s easy to overlook the value and beauty of locally made goods. Yet, there’s something incredibly special about owning a piece that was made, with love, by human hands right here in our community. At Penny’s of Blyth store, we believe in the importance of supporting local artisans, not only because it stimulates our local economy, but also because it helps keep traditional works alive and encourages creativity within our community.
Each product at Penny’s of Blyth store tells a story – of dedication, workmanship, and passion. These goods are more than just items; they’re the result of countless hours of work, the manifestation of unique skills, and a testament to the artisan’s personal journey. When you purchase local artisan products, you’re not just buying an item; you’re becoming a part of that story. You’re supporting an individual’s dream, and contributing to the rich tapestry of skills and goods that make up our vibrant community.
This fall, we had the pleasure of hosting an unforgettable event titled “Meet the Makers Fall 2023.” This gathering showcased the unique artisan products made right here in Ontario.
MEET: Marianne Goodman, Beach2Woods
Our first guest, Marianne Goodman of Beach2Woods, introduced us to cyanotype, a vintage photographic technique that transforms various materials into deep blue masterpieces. Despite the cloudy day, Marianne used a UV light to demonstrate this magical process. Due to the overwhelming interest, Marianne will now be hosting cyanotype workshops at our store on select Saturdays throughout the year.
MEET: Pat Bremner, Heartfelt by Pat
The event also featured Pat Bremner, who was in her element needle felting. Pat encouraged attendees to try their hand at needle felting, resulting in some truly beautiful pieces. The vibrant pile of unspun wool certainly sparked creativity among our guests.
MEET: Judy Brady, Artist from Sarnia, ON
We were thrilled to welcome Judy Brady, an artist from Sarnia, for the first time. Judy captivated us all as she created her signature ‘ladies’ from watercolour columns. Judy’s artwork from the event will grace her Christmas cards this year, and we’re excited to share these cards and their story with you soon!
MEET: Joanne Woudenberg, Joanne & Co.
Joanne Woudenberg of Joanne & Co. was an invaluable help during the event. Her assistance with customer purchases allowed me more time to mingle with the Makers and our wonderful guests. Joanne’s repurposed quilt tote bags, aprons, bowl buddies, and more added to the charm of the day. Plus, her homemade Pot Pourri filled the store with the amazing scent of the fall and holiday season.
MEET: Bernice Glenn, Bernie’s Beach Glass Necklaces
The generous, Bernice Glenn of Bernie’s Beach Glass Necklaces joined us to share her mission of supporting The Coldest Night of the Year through sales of her Lake Huron Beach Glass Necklaces. We’re proud to announce that nearly $200 will be donated from sales made on the day of the event! Bernice’s efforts have earned her a well-deserved nomination for an award recognizing her positive impact helping the homeless.
Penny’s of Blyth store is proud to support and celebrate the incredible talent found in and around Huron County. Visit the store for an ever changing landscape of goods that will comfort your soul and help a local artisan along the way.
“The “Meet the Makers Fall 2023” event was a testament to the creativity, skill, and community spirit that make our region so special. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future, so stay tuned!”
